As part of the supporting crew, you'll play a crucial role in supporting the event, connecting with designers, and enthusiasts, and ensuring the smooth execution of next year's festival.

A minimum 5-day availability is required, with longer commitments highly encouraged.

ROLES OVERVIEW

Tech & Audio-Visual

Your duties will include:

  • Assist in the setup, installation, and testing of audiovisual equipment, including screens, projectors, sound systems, microphones, and lighting, to ensure all technical aspects are functioning properly before events.
  • Provide on-site technical support during events, troubleshooting any issues that may arise with TV/AV equipment, internet connectivity, or other technical setups.
  • Help maintain and organize AV equipment storage areas, ensure equipment is properly inventoried, cared for and ready for future use and finally work closely with other event volunteers and staff
  • Ensure seamless coordination between the technical aspects and overall event logistics.

Stage Management and Speaker Guide

  • Stage Coordination: Manage the stage during all festival events, ensuring smooth transitions between speakers and activities.
  • Speaker Support: Act as the main point of contact for speakers, guiding them on their schedule, stage presence, and tech setup.
  • Time Management: Keep track of time during each session to ensure events stay on schedule.
  • Technical Assistance: Coordinate with the technical team to make sure all audiovisual equipment is set up and functioning for each session.
  • Problem Solving: Handle any last-minute changes or issues that arise with speakers or stage setups.

Festival & Exhibit Production

This is your chance join our production crew, duties include but not limited to:

  • Working with the festival team to Install, move, decorate and improve the festival and individual experiences within it.
  • Painting; Moving festival props and furniture; arranging spaces. Be prepared to be actively lifting, walking and assisting setting up.
  • Post festival you will be tasked with post- event clean-up and restoration of the festival areas, ensuring the venue is left in excellent condition.

Festival Guide and Customer Experience

We are looking for individuals who will provide exceptional customer service, your duties will include but not limited to:

  • Assist with managing crowds, especially during peak hours, to ensure a smooth flow of foot traffic and minimize congestion at the ticketing desk. Look after storage.
  • Track exhibitor teams and support with signing in.
  • Act as a resource for visitors, addressing their concerns, resolving issues, and directing them to appropriate festival staff or services when necessary
  • Gather feedback from visitors to identify areas for improvement and relay feedback to the festival organizers.
  • Look after visitors, exhibitors, spaces and exhibits
  • Provide assistance and directions to people around the site.

Marketing

Duties include;

  • Social Media Management
  • Event promotion by distributing marketing materials,
  • Monitor marketing efforts, track data, and analyze campaign performance,
  • Collaborate with local media outlets, influencers, and bloggers to secure coverage and features about the Festival
  • Develop Compelling blog posts of the event post marketing.

Photography and video

  • Event Coverage: Capture high-quality photos and videos of workshops, Barazas (meetings), installations, and interactions during the festival.
  • Behind-the-Scenes: Document behind-the-scenes moments of the festival setup, participants, and crew.
  • Storytelling: Use photography and videography to tell the story of Nairobi Design Week, highlighting key moments, speaker sessions, and audience engagement.
  • Editing: Provide post-production editing to deliver polished, professional-quality images and videos.

Graphic Design

Crew duties include but not limited to;

  • Support with creating graphical assets, must be conversant with Adobe creative Suite
  • Develop the festival map, posters, banners, social media graphics, brochures, and other marketing materials.
  • Event Collateral: Create visuals for presentations, speaker slides, schedules, and signage to guide attendees throughout the festival.
  • Support the team by creating engaging content for the website and social media channels to promote the festival and its events.

Crew may also be assigned general tasks when necessary

There will be opportunities to participate before, during and after the festival. Applications will be selected on a rolling basis. We encourage early submissions.

Yes, crew will receive a stipend and lunch.

Do you have to be physically available?

Yes, you will be required to attend orientation and to be present on site before during and after the festival
