Henrike Grohs Art Award 2024

Applications to the 4th Henrike Grohs Art Award are open from 17 July – 31 August 2023.

The Henrike Grohs Art Award is a roving biennial art prize conceived by the Goethe-Institut and the Grohs family in memory of the former Head of Goethe-Institut in Abidjan, - the prize aims to support outstanding artistic practices and contributes to cultural dialogue on the African continent.

Applications are open from 17 July - 31 August 2023.

Since its inauguration in 2018, the prize has established itself as an outstanding opportunity to promote exceptional African contemporary art practice. Contemporary visual artists from various disciplines living and working on the African continent are eligible to apply.

The winning individual artist or collective will receive a cash prize of 20.000€ and 10.000€ towards the production of a publication on their work. Two artists or collectives will be selected as runners up and will be awarded a cash prize of 5.000€ each.

**Emerging visual artists living and working on the African continent may apply. **Artists should have been practicing for at least 5 years, with the ability to display a coherent body of work. Artists apply through an open call. All artists except the former award winners are eligible to apply multiple times (once per edition), as long as they follow the application guidelines.

Review Prize rules and conditions for the Henrike Grohs Art Award and submit your application form available here. To complete this application form, please note that you will need to upload a PDF portfolio including the following:

  • Artist bio (200 words max)
  • Artist statement about your work (750 words max)
  • A maximum of 3 recent bodies of work, consisting of at least 5 works of art each.
